Cabinet Painting by r&R services

Ryan C. Rupert/Amy Rupert

Do you need to update your outdated kitchen or bathroom cabinets?

Services

R&R Services, LLC provides cabinet painting for your kitchen, bathroom and bookshelves. We also use this same process for painting doors and trim. Ryan, the owner, has over 20 years of experience painting cabinets. R&R Services offers a 5 year guarantee on your cabinets and free touch up (up to 4 times a year). This is how confident we are in our process!

Initial Consult

R&R Services will set up an initial consult with the potential customer. This consult is free and will be completed in the customers home. At this time, R&R Services will discuss your look and goals of the project, answer any questions, take pictures and then will email a formal bid to the customer. Bids include all supplies and the primer and paint needed.

First Phase

The customer will need to choose a color. R&R Services highly recommends choosing 2-3 samples and apply to your facings in different lighting to ensure the color is right for you. Once a color is chosen, R&R Services will label all your door fronts and drawer facings. This is to ensure proper placement back after the painting process is completed Next, all the hinges and any knobs/pulls will be removed. Last, the fronts and drawer facings will be transported to our shop where the painting process will start.

Second Phase - Sanding

Once the doors/drawers facings are brought to our shop, we will begin the prep phase before applying any primer or paint. All door/drawers facings (back and front) will be cleaned with a de-greaser, then will be sanded until the top varnish coat is removed to expose the wood pores. After sanding, the doors/drawer facings will be thoroughly cleaned off with tack cloths and blown off with an air compressor. This is critical to ensure no dust gets in the paint. Any holes will be filled with wood filler.

Third Phase - Primer

Once the cabinets are cleaned, R&R services will apply two coats of Smart Primer. An airless HVLP sprayer is used to eliminate any brush strokes. The Primer will need to dry for at least 3-4 hours before the paint is applied. Once the primer is dry, a light sanding will occur. This is an important step to smooth out the surface and provide better adhesion for the paint be applied.

Fourth Phase - Paint

After cleaning off the door/drawer facings, the first coat of paint will be applied with a sprayer. The paint will need to dry for at least 16 hours. After the paint is dry, a light sanding will occur. After they are cleaned off, a light second coat of paint will be applied. The cabinet doors/drawer facings will need to dry and cure for at least 48 hours before installing back into the home. During this dry time, we will come to the home and work on your facings/boxes, foot plate and any molding or island.

Fifth Phase - In the home

When the door/drawers facings are drying, R&R Services will come to the home to complete the same process as above in your kitchen or bathroom. The area will be closed off with plastic and two vacuums are used to prevent dust going throughout the home. All flooring will be covered. The box facings, any trim around the facings, foot plate and island (if applicable) will be sanded, primed and painted. Tape and caulk will be used for any areas that will not be painted (inside of the cabinets, walls around the cabinets, etc.). R&R recommends you empty your cabinets and any items you have on the counters.

Final Phase - Install and Inspection

It is time to install! All of the door/drawer facings are wrapped up separately and transported back to the customers home and installed. Touch-up may be required after transport. If the customer chooses to add new pulls/knobs, a jig will be used to ensure precision placement. A final inspection will be completed with the customer and any touch up will be applied if applicable. As stated before, we do guarantee your cabinets for life and offer touch up for free.

Items to consider

What if I am getting new counter top? R&R Services recommends getting your counter top installed first prior to painting your cabinets.

How much grain will I see?

All cabinets are different. Depending on the wood, you may see some grain or none at all. If you are looking for a grain free look, we do offer the option for an additional cost to add Aqua Coat grain filler.

Do you install crown molding?

We do not install crown molding, but can paint over it. We do have a referral if you want crown molding installed.

How long does this process take?

It all depends on the size of your kitchen. For smaller kitchens, we predict 6-7 days, for larger kitchens it could take up to two weeks. This will be discussed with you prior to the job start.
